Tour Itinerary
Day 1: ARRIVAL (10 mins)
Upon your arrival in Entebbe, you will be picked up by a company representative transferred to your hotel. Accommodation at the Boma Hotel B
DAY 2: ENTEBBE – JINJA 3 hrs drive
After breakfast, depart Kampala and head towards the unknown East to Jinja. The name ‘Jinja’ means ‘Rock’. This was named so simply because in Africa, rivers like the Nile hindered migration, this explains the ethnic boundaries along the Nile as one moves north from the river’s source on the northern shores of Lake Victoria. Jinja is famously known as the origin of the source of the Nile by British Explorer –John Speke and we do refer to it as the adventure town of Uganda!
Start your adventure with a Forest walk in Mabira Forest. Mabira Forest is one of the few places in Uganda where you can see Mangabey Monkeys and there are three habituated groups which can be tracked with guides who were a part of the habituation process. Look out for the different species of primates, birds and colorful butterflies. Different trails are available ranging from 20 minutes up to 3-4 hours. Thereafter, head to Jinja arriving in the early evening. Accommodation and meals at The Haven B-L-D
Day 3: JINJA FULL DAY – RAFTING -GRADE 3
Have breakfast and then head for the wild waters with rafts, kayakers, photographer and video-kayaker; get prepared to get in touch with your wild side in the warm waters of the Nile. This is 5– 6 hours of rafting on the Nile.
The following equipment is provided for rafting high-flotation life jackets, helmets, spray jackets and custom-made rafting equipment. After a delicious picnic lunch and BBQ snack, resume rafting once again if you prefer or head back to the lodge for relaxation. Accommodation and meals at The Haven B-L-D
Day 4: QUAD BIKING – TRAIL BLAZER- SOURCE OF NILE CRUISE
After breakfast, we will go on a 4-hour quad bike safari. Follow the small tracks through the bushes that will lead you to undiscovered beautiful viewpoints overlooking the rapids of the Nile. The safari will give you also the chance to explore the African countryside from another angle, as you pass small villages, cultivated land and see people during their daily activities. A free training session is conducted before each safari.
After lunch, explore the source of the Nile cruising around the first few kilometers of the Nile search along the shores and small islands for birds, otters and Nile monitor lizards. You will visit the origin of the Nile, at this site, history unfolds itself. This is where a British Explorer John Speke first discovered the River Nile, stand where he stood and you may take a picture with the monument. Also visit the site where you will find the plaque of Mahatma Gandhi, some of whose ashes were scattered into the river following his death in 1948. Watch how the most famous river in the world starts its long journey through Africa into the Mediterranean. Accommodation and meals at The Haven B-L-D
Day 5: JINJA – FORT PORTAL (7 hrs drive)
Breakfast and then we to southwestern Uganda, Fortportal Town that rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon and famous for the many tea plantations. Lunch will be en-route arriving in the evening for relaxation. Accommodation and meals at Crater Safari Lodge B-L-D
Day 6: FOOTHILLS OF THE RWENZORIS & CRATER LAKES REGIONS
Breakfast and then enjoy the majestic Rwenzori Mountains in their full glory on a guided walk in the foothills of the ‘Mountains of the Moon’. As well as enjoying the scenic views, we will get a glimpse into local village life and meet some of the locals and visit a waterfall. After lunch, head to explore the region of the crater lakes. Enjoy the beauty of the numerous small lakes, surrounded by gentle hills, and the stunning views. Take a hike at Lake Nkuruba to encounter different species of primates and birds, and visit the Mahoma Falls. Meet the local people as you walk through their villages, learn about the customs of the Batoro tribe and enjoy the panoramic views. Accommodation and meals at Crater Safari Lodge B-L-D
Day 7: FORT PORTAL – QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK 4 hrs
After breakfast, head to Queen Elizabeth National Park arriving in time for Lunch. Thereafter take on a 3-hour scenic boat cruise at 14:00 hrs along the Kazinga Channel, a natural and pre-historic canal that joins Lakes Edward and George. It is 33 km long, guests are guaranteed excellent wildlife sightings including, multitudes of hippopotamus, Nile crocodiles, wallowing buffaloes on its reedy banks, elephants, multitudes of birds including many endemics as well as hundreds of other plains game that come to it for water all day long. Thereafter head back to the lodge for relaxation. Accommodation and meals at Katara Lodge (B, L, D)
Day 8: LION EXPERIENTIAL PROJECT – ISHASHA SECTOR 3 hrs
After breakfast, head for the research project that allows visitors to participate in monitoring the prides in the park, using locator devices and learning habituation calls, as well as monitoring weather, surroundings and behavior. The Lion Project involves the clients and the researchers heading as early as 6:30am with a safari vehicle equipped with radio-collar-receiving equipment to keep track of the lions. Later head out to Ishasha Sector – the southern part of the park. Evening arriving in time for lunch. Later, have a Sundowner at a suitable viewing point either along the ridge area or beside the Ntungwe River to savor the vast vistas and atmosphere of this beautiful area of the park. Day 9: ISHASHA – BWINDI NATIONAL PARK 2hrs
After a Bush Breakfast, have a game drive in search of the tree climbing lions then head to Bwindi National Park arriving in time for lunch and relaxation in preparation for the gorilla trekking day. Accommodation and meals at Buhoma Lodge B-L-D
Day 10: GORILLA TRACKING
Following breakfast, transfer to the national park offices where you will be allocated a gorilla family in groups of 8 as well as a gorilla tracking guide.
After a pre-tracking briefing by your guide touching on the gorillas generally, your assigned gorilla family as well as appropriate safety precautions, you drive to the trailhead for the start of a thrilling adventure – participants can expect to walk long distances in steep and sometimes muddy conditions with rain overhead, which can be challenging, however the thrill of coming face to face with a giant Mountain Gorilla silverback far more than makes up for the effort in their quest. Granted the time taken can be quite unpredictable taking anything from 2 to 8 hrs or longer.
You will have packed lunch from the lodge for this hike. Upon sighting the gorillas, you spend the allowed one hour with them as they go about their daily life; feeding, moving, playing, raising their young and sometimes wrestling by the juveniles – it is a totally unique and unforgettable experience!
Afterwards, you hike back to base from where you will be transferred back to the lodge for a well-deserved shower, some time to relax. Accommodation and meals at Buhoma Lodge (B L D)
Day 11: BWINDI FOREST – LAKE BUNYONYI 5 hrs
After breakfast to Lake Bunyonyi arriving in time for lunch at the Lodge. After lunch, head for a Culture on the crest expedition by canoe across to the Kyabahinga peninsula, a visit to a trading center above Edirisa Nursery School you will be invited to a cup of the local brew, obushera. On a 30 minutes ascent on the slopes of Kyabahinga, you will encounter a traditional healer / herbalist who will share secrets of the tropical highland flora. Kyabahinga has got amazing views over most of Lake Bunyonyi, its 29 islands and the distant Muhavura volcano. The last stop is a craft center with demonstrations on making local crafts and participatory roles as well. Thereafter descend back heading for the canoes once again to proceed back to the mainland. Day 12: LAKE BUNYONYI – LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK 5 hrs
After breakfast, you will head to Lake Mburo National Park arriving in time for lunch and relaxation. Later on, have early dinner and head out for a 2-hour night game drive in the park. Look out for White tailed mongoose, elusive leopards, spotted hyenas among others, later return to the lodge. Accommodation and meals at Mihingo Lodge B L D
DAY 13: DRIVE BACK TO ENTEBBE 6 hrs
Early morning bush walk along the hyena track for a 2-hour hike, hikes through the woodland provide an opportunity to sight forest birds and mammals. Return to the lodge for breakfast and check out. Head back to Entebbe with a stopover at the Equator for a demonstration of the water flowing in the northern and southern hemisphere. After lunch proceed to Entebbe arriving in the early evening. you will have lunch en-route then proceed to Entebbe arriving in early evening for relaxation. DAY 14: DEPARTURE
Enriched with an experience of a lifetime and unforgettable memories from your active adventure tour, you will say goodbye to the Pearl of Africa. Enjoy your day at leisure. Depending on the time of departure you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home. We are looking forward to seeing you again!
