Fly to Kidepo Valley National Park

15 days Highlights of Uganda Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe

Upon your arrival in Entebbe, you will be picked up by a company representative and transferred to your hotel at the start of your 15 days highlights of the Uganda Tour. Accommodation at the Hotel No 5

Day 2: Flight to Kidepo National Park 1.5hrs

Head to Airport for the aero link flight to Kidepo National Park departing at 12:30hrs and arriving at 14:45hrs at Apoka Airstrip. You will be picked up by the lodge representative upon arrival. You may have an evening game safari in the park.  Your safari guide will arrive later in the evening. Accommodation and meals at Apoka Lodge.

Day 3: Kidepo National Park Off-the-beaten track tour drive

A full day in one of the most beautiful and certainly most remote national parks in Uganda! Early in the morning, you will explore the Narus River Valley by game safari. Go in search of giraffes, ostriches, zebras, elephants, and lions. The park is also a birder’s paradise as it boasts a bird list with over 475 species. Have lunch and relax before going on a visit to one of the local Karamojong communities. The Karamojong tribe is well known for its unique nomadic lifestyle and rich traditions of storytelling.  Accommodation and meals at Apoka Lodge

Day 4: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park (7 hrs)

Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park arriving in time for lunch at the lunch. Murchison Falls is the second savannah wildlife gem that you’ll adventure and is the largest savannah wildlife reserve in the country. You’ll have an evening savannah game drive in the safari park where you’ll find more Rothschild Giraffes than anywhere else in Africa.  Accommodation and meals at Nile Safari Camp.

Day 5: Game safari and Boat cruise to the Bottom of the falls

With an early rise and delicious breakfast you will start the day with a savannah wildlife game drive on the northern bank of the Nile River, with chances of seeing giraffes, elephants, lions, hartebeest, and different species of birds. Head back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Thereafter head for the boat cruise at 14:00hrs on the placid Victoria Nile to the foot of the magnificent Murchison Falls where the Nile River plunges through a narrow crevice and over a 40-meter drop from a 7-meter gorge look out for the Nile crocodile, pools of hippo, waterbucks and a variety of bird species. You will disembark and hike to the top of the falls for 1.5 hrs where you will be met by your guide before proceeding back to the lodge.  Accommodation and meals at Nile Safari Camp

Day 6: Murchison Falls – Fort Portal (8hrs)

This day is a long transfer day to Fort Portal passing through traditional homesteads and scenic areas, the drive is almost 8 hours and you will arrive in the evening. Accommodation and meals at Papaya Lake Lodge

Day 7: Chimp Trekking and Bigodi Swamp Tour

After breakfast, we visit the chimpanzee tracking county, Kibale Forest National Park, reputable for having the greatest variety and the highest concentration of primates in East Africa. A guided nature walk in the tropical rain forest in search of the wild chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and many others. After lunch will be taken for the Bigodi swamp walk for chances of viewing primates and bird species.  Accommodation and meals at Papaya Lake Lodge

Day 8: Rwenzori foothills – Queen Elizabeth National Park (4hrs)

Today you can enjoy the majestic Rwenzori Mountains in their full glory! Have a guided walk at the foothills of the ‘Mountains of the Moon and learn about the local culture firsthand. Enjoy the scenic views, have a glimpse of village life, and meet the locals. Thereafter transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park arriving in time for late lunch. 

In the evening, you may head out for an evening game drive or a community coffee tour experience learning about the processing of coffee, and later a cultural dance session.  Accommodation and meals at Katara Lodge.

Day 9: Game drive and Boat cruise along Kazinga Channel

Rise early at 6:30 am and set out for an early morning savannah wildlife game drive at the mating ground of the Uganda Kobs. You will search for lions, elephants, buffaloes, and other wild animals in their natural habitat before returning for dinner. You will have your breakfast packed for you by your lodge and enjoy it in the amazing wilderness.

After lunch at your Lodge, you will take on a scenic boat cruise at 14:00hrs along the Kazinga Channel, a natural and pre-historic canal that joins Lakes Edward and George. 33 kilometers long and 2 to 3 km at its widest points. On a scheduled 3 hrs boat ride look out for hippopotami, Nile crocodiles, wallowing buffaloes, elephants, and bird species.   Later head back to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 10: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Bwindi Park (6hrs)

After breakfast, we commence our highlights of Uganda safari with a transfer to Bwindi National Park via the Ishasha Sector – look out for the tree-climbing lions.  Proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest NP, the home of the mountain gorillas arriving in time for a late lunch and relaxation.  Dinner and overnight at Mahogany Springs

Day 11: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Gorilla Trekking

In the early morning, you will be briefed on gorilla tracking at the park headquarters and assigned groups of 8 people per group. Accompanied by a guide and your packed lunch, you will go in search of the gorillas in a small group. You walk through the forest, sometimes you descend again and then climb up a slope again. The duration of gorilla tracking is unpredictable, it can take between 4-8 hours. 

The walk can be quite challenging due to the muddy trails and the mountainous area. It is definitely worth it. For an hour you can admire these peaceful ‘Gentle Giants’ as they go about their daily activities of grooming, feeding, and playing.   It is a once-in-a-lifetime memorable experience on your 15 days highlights of the Uganda Tour.  Accommodation and meals at Mahogany Springs

Day 12: Bwindi Forest – Lake Bunyonyi – Culture on the crest ( 5hrs)

You will head to Lake Bunyonyi arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, you will embark on a 5-hour experience on Kyabahinga Peninsula. You will canoe across the bay to the terraced hillsides of the Kyabahinga peninsula. Have a stopover at a trading center above the school where the local brew is made. 

Climb the slopes of Kyabahinga for about 30 minutes where you will meet Omugurusi Jeremiah, a traditional healer, and herbalist who will share with us some carefully chosen secrets of tropical highland flora. You will hear some of the colorful tales, legends, and historical facts related to these islands. 

Proceed to the ridge where you will find a home of a crafts maker who will demonstrate how the crafts are made, which you can try out as well. A descent down the hill and a short canoe ride will bring you back to our starting point.  It is one of the most scenic areas in southwest Uganda!

Day 13: Lake Bunyonyi – Lake Mburo National Park – Cycling  (5hrs)

Breakfast and then we head to Lake Mburo National Park arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, you will relax at the lodge before having a cycling session in the park, look out for wildlife, like impalas, topis, warthogs, zebras, and buffaloes. Accommodation and meals at Mihingo Lodge

Day 14: Lake Mburo National Park – Nature walk & Boat ride

After breakfast, with the last dying hours of the highlights of the Uganda safari, we take on the last savannah wildlife game drive through the beaten paths of Lake Mburo National Park. You will follow the tracks in the safari park in search of zebras, buffaloes, impalas, and maybe even the elusive elands. Return to the lodge for some relaxation and lunch. After lunch, you can go on a boat ride on the lake and enjoy the rich bird life and the hippos that are cooling off.

Day 15: Lake Mburo National Park – Entebbe – Departure (6 hrs)

Today head back to Kampala arriving in time for lunch and a refreshment room if your flight is late in the evening.
