Ngamba Island – Chimpanzee Feeding Session

Ngamba Island, a project of the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (CSWCT), was established in 1998 to provide refuge for orphaned chimpanzees rescued from poachers by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and its collaborators.

Situated within the Koome group of islands on Lake Victoria, approximately 23 km southeast of Entebbe, Ngamba Island spans roughly 100 acres, with 98 acres covered in lush forest. These wooded areas are cordoned off from the visitor’s section by an electric fence.

For visitors embarking on a day trip to Uganda, Ngamba Island offers a captivating experience. Upon arrival at the sanctuary, guests are warmly received at the visitor center and provided with an informative overview of the island’s conservation initiatives, its rich history, and its chimpanzee inhabitants.

Subsequently, visitors are directed to raised platforms positioned along the forest enclosures’ periphery. Here, they can marvel at the chimpanzees mere meters away, particularly during the feeding sessions held at 11:00 am and 2:30 pm daily.

Uganda Wildlife Education Center Day Trip

Established in 1994, the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) emerged from the remnants of the old Entebbe Zoo with a mission to spearhead conservation education in Uganda. At its core, UWEC aims to enlighten Ugandans about the invaluable importance of preserving the nation’s rich biodiversity, a pivotal aspect of the country’s ongoing recovery and a boon to its flourishing tourism industry.

UWEC’s primary focus encompasses the rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife, particularly injured or orphaned animals. Concurrently, it endeavors to instill in the local populace an understanding of the myriad benefits associated with safeguarding Uganda’s natural diversity.

Moreover, UWEC collaborates closely with both domestic and international partners to catalyze conservation efforts across Uganda’s expansive network of national parks and protected areas.

For those seeking to engage more intimately with UWEC’s noble cause, a variety of immersive programs are available as part of day trips or excursions within Uganda. Typically, the center is open to visitors during regular business hours, which are usually from around 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
